Starting Calligraphy - Position

PAScribe
PAScribe
Before even picking up a pen to write with, there are three things you need to familiarise yourself with, Posture, Placement and Position. The position of the practitioner, the writing tool and the paper are the next things to consider, before starting the practise of calligraphy, or the art of writing. How the fingers hold the pen, and indeed where they hold the writing instrument along its shaft, coupled with wrist and arm movements allow for an easier expression of the actual writing. This video looks at the relationship of the fingers, wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulders for smoother movements for larger writing and decorative flourishing. It also looks at what is happening with the non-writing hand and the role it plays in producing calligraphy. The video is suitable for both right-handers and left-handers. This is three in a series of three, combine them all to assist you and really enjoying learning calligraphy.
