Bright Flaring Objects Falling on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Amid Report of Russian Shelling

Ukrainian authorities said Europe's largest nuclear plant was shelled from Russian forces early on Friday. Video shows bright flaring objects landing on the grounds of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Enerhodar, a city on the Dnieper River. Plant spokesman Andriy Tuz told Ukrainian television that shells were falling directly on the Zaporizhzhia plant and had set fire to one of the facility's six reactors. That reactor is under renovation and not operating, but there is nuclear fuel inside, he said. The fire has been extinguished, Ukraine’s state emergency service announced, adding that there were no victims in the incident. The mayor of Energodar said in the early hours of Friday that Russian forces had attacked the plant. The plant is located in Enerhodar, accounting for one-quarter of the country’s power generation.
