The Thayer family, raises real working stock on their homestead. The pups from day one are born outside in their domesticated ‘den’. As soon as they open their eyes and start to explore they are allowed safe access to all of our stock with the perfect teachers, mom and dad, along with supervision from the family. Pups need plenty of time learning from the best before they take on their own land. When you watch these dogs work, you realize there is so much more than meets the eye. They know how to approach the livestock as not to startle them, to show they are the guardian not the threat. The pups thrive walking step for step with the adults. They soak up the body language their elders exhibit among each of the stock. The language is different from specie to specie. The dogs don't approach the goats the same way they do the pigs and when we send the pups off to their new charges, they already have a leg up and a solid foundation.
