In January 2019, ex-police officer Harry Miller was contacted by Humberside police, after he tweeted a limerick that was critical of transgender people. Even though no crime had been committed, the police recorded the post as a non-crime hate incident. He’s since won a legal challenge, with the Court of Appeal ruling that the police guidance was wrongly used and had a chilling effect on his freedom of speech. He’s now launched the Bad Law Project to help others who find themselves in the same situation.
